57,000 JEEP WRANGLERS RECALLED OVER "UNNECESSARY" PART THAT COULD CAUSE FUEL LEAK, FIRE

An “unnecessary” part installed on some Jeep Wranglers could puncture the fuel tank and create a fire risk, according to a recall report filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Administration.

Chrysler, the maker of Jeep vehicles, said the recall affects 57,885 vehicles, 58% of which are expected to have the “unnecessary and unused frame stud.”

The extra stud could pierce the fuel tank during a crash, Chrysler said, causing a fuel leak.

Chrysler said in the report it stopped building Wranglers with extra frame studs in May 2022, and that, as of March 9, it had not been aware of any injuries or accidents related to the recall.

Affected owners can expect to be notified of the recall on May 12, according to the report, and will be offered a free removal of the frame stud.
